Area 3000

Nella porzione settentrionale del settore, lungo la facciata USM 3335, continua lo scavo della fossa sepolcrale US – 3908, contenente parte degli arti inferiori (tibie, fibule e piedi) di un individuo in connessione anatomica, orientato W-E e deposto supino, la cui parte superiore del corpo è stata tagliata ed asportata dalla fossa di fondazione della facciata dell’abbazia di XII secolo. Più ad est la rimozione del riempimento US 3921 all’interno della tomba US 3920 sta mettendo in luce i resti scheletrici di un inumato, di cui rimangono solamente la tibia, fibula ed il piede sinistro e parte del piede destro; il resto del corpo è stato intercettato da altre fosse sepolcrali e dalla fornace per la fusione e la gettata della campana di epoca successiva. Nella porzione sud-occidentale del settore è iniziato lo scavo della fossa sepolcrale US – 3933, orientata W-E , la cui indagine sarà approfondita nei giorni successivi.

Three holes were excavated. There was continued excavation on all three sites that had bones and those will be further excavated next week. The skeleton number 3931 was exposed for photographs and prepped for GIS measurements on Monday.  Danielle and Lexi were in GIS lab. Amy was in Osteo Lab.

Area 5000

Today the students continued to level the southern portion of section C with pickaxes and then trowels. The students then cleaned the area, after this the area was moistened. The area was then cleaned again; the trench was also cleaned. Finally, pictures were taken of the area.

Area 6000

Today after a rain delay and two riveting lectures, we proceeded to take points, fill out the context sheet, and remove skeleton 6218. Most bones were present, only a few left arm bones and bones from both hands, and some foot bones were missing. After removing the skeleton, we found the bottom of the grave cut and took more pictures.  
In skeleton 6220 additional bones were exposed, including the right fibula, vertebrae, ribs, and humeri. Other than this, the fill in this area was further leveled to aid the further exposure of the skeleton.
