Area 3000

Nella porzione meridionale  la pulizia del settore ha permesso l’individuazione dei limiti di numerose buche di piccole dimensioni , perlopiù di forma circolare, concentrate lungo il limite sud-orientale dell’area. Le buche suddette sono probabilmente attribuibili alla stessa attività e saranno indagate nei prossimi giorni. Nella porzione centro-meridionale è iniziato lo scavo di una buca di forma quadrata (US – 30006) e di un’altra di forma circolare (US – 30008), collocata più a nord-est.

Today the northern half of sector B was cleaned for photographic documentation. The square-shaped hole with fill number 30007 was excavated, contained yellow/red clay with no inclusions. Then 25 smaller holes (-30006, -30059, -30057, -30055, -30053, -30051, -30049, -30041, -30047, -30039, -30037, -30033, -30035, -30025, -30029, -30031, -30061, -30023, -30061, -30021, -30019, -30017, -30015, -30027, -30063) in the southeastern corner of sector B against the facade of the church were excavated. The fill of these holes was made of yellow/gray clay with small pebbles, and hole -30023 had a small rock at the bottom.

Dopo aver svuotato e ripulito i due tagli US -5047 e US -5045 che incidono sulla struttura muraria USM 5042 abbiamo potuto terminare la documentazione fotografica relativa a questa porzione dell'area. Si è proceduto quindi con la pulizia della porzione centrale del settore B sul quale non sono osservabili ulteriori evidenze stratigrafiche. L'area 5000 sta ormai esaurendo le sue risorse archeologiche e verrà presto abbandonata in favore della nuova area 7000.

Area 6000

PORZIONE MERIDIONALE

Nel settore Sud dell'area è terminata la messa in luce dell'individuo USk 6238, un maschio adulto orientato ovest-est e interessato da un'asportazione delle estremità degli arti inferiori in seguito alla realizzazione della tomba a cassa USM 3047.

Today in area 6000 we finished removing enough of fill 6236 from skeleton 6238 to take pictures photogrammetry and points for GIS. We then began removing skeleton 6238 from the grave. While removing the tibiae we located the right fibula beneath the tibia, and fragments of calcaneus and talus at the ends of both tibias. The talus was sliced vertically, showing the cut from the construction of the lithic tomb. As well, we have identified the individual in the burial as male by assessing the sciatic notch and ventral arc located on the pelvis. We also began filling out the context sheet for the skeleton.

PORZIONE SETTENTRIONALE

Nella porzione nord-orientale del settore continua l’indagine della tomba a cassa litica USM 6123, all’interno della quale è in corso la messa in luce di un livello di riduzione parziale di resti osteologici, concentrata soprattutto lungo la parete occidentale del cassone. Ad est di questa è stato individuato l’arto inferiore destro di un individuo in connessione anatomica, la cui parte sinistra del corpo è stata intercettata da una fossa sepolcrale di epoca successiva. 

(group 3000) Today several more centimeters of the fill 6155 were removed from the lithic coffin in the northern area of sector B to reveal more of the human remains in the first reduction layer as well as to discern whether any elements were in articulation. Two phalanges and an irregular bone were found in the western end of the tomb, though it is thus far undetermined if they belong to hand or foot. Several undetermined bone fragments were revealed in the same area, as well as a distal phalanx (unknown if manual or pedal). In the central area of the tomb, more work was done to reveal several longbones, many belonging to assorted scattered leg bones (tibia, fibula, unassociated head of a femur) which were part of the reduction layer. Further in the central third of the tomb, a humerus and clavicle were revealed which are oriented west to east, possibly associated with the articulated femur and tibia in the eastern third of the tomb. Also in the easternmost third of the tomb, the fill was lowered several centimeters around the diaphesis of the previously revealed tibia in an attemt to determine if it was connected with a fibula or foot bones. Scattered within the fill in this area are a small fragment of cranium, several pieces of longbone diapheses possibly beloning to various arm bones, a tooth, an isolated tibia, and several foot bones which were found to be in articulation with each other, suggesting that the foot was reduced while sufficient connective tissue was present to keep the elements in articulation.

Continua la pulizia degli strati di età contemporanea al di sotto dei quali è visibile una nuova interfaccia molto simile alla precedente, costituita da materiale macerioso immerso in una matrice mista, riferibile probabilmente alle attività di livellamento del terreno in seguito alla realizzazione del piazzale della chiesa in età moderna.

All team members continued to pickaxe, trowel and clean the surface of area 7000. Once again rusted iron nails and pottery sherds were found, the earliest dating from the 19th century. This signified that we have not yet reached layer 7011, as perviously believed.
