Area 6000

Area 6000/A - We exposed the right and left leg of the inidividual in the northeast grave. Likewise, we began excavating the legs found in the southwest grave. In the southeast grave, we found a third left femur and more scattered or disarticulated bones. We are trying to determine the original individual through an understanding of stratigraphy and taphonomy. The individual in the northwest grave was cut by another individual, so we expanded the grave further northward to continue exposing them. 

Area 6000/B - Today, 9-1PM today, we continued to expose bone in 6242. The mandible of the skull and some scapula were exposed, and some of the skull was cleaned up a little bit. On the East half of 6242 the femoral head and os coxae continued to be exposed. The outer part of the grave began to be dug. After lunch break, The skull outside of burial 6242 was explored to see if it is associated with that burial, or if it is its own burial. By the end it was determined that the skull was not part of the burial but instead was cut by the adjacent lithic tomb. Some animal bone was found in the fill nearby. In the west half of area 6000/B we uncovered a pelvis and a femur adjacent to a previously exposed skull, which lead to uncovering the area above the pelvis and femur in search of an associated skull. However, it turned out the already exposed skull was not part of the burial we were excavating. The previously exposed skull is thought to maybe be a reduction burial. The rocky fill was lowered until a single tooth was found. 

Area 7000

In the morning we cleaned around the hole on the North West side of the section. We focused on using hand axes to clear up any rocky, uneven edges around the side, and then continued using our trowels to dig down a little deeper. Any dirt/ soil collected in buckets were then looked over, in order to collect any more ceramics or possible teeth that had been found in that area a few days before. Afterwards, in the afternoon, we used our trowels to drag any dirt on top and clean around rocks, from the hole in the North East to the middle section of the whole area. Which was used as preparation for our next day, in which we were able to understand from Alan that we needed to now focus on understanding the middle section of the area, North to South.
