Resoconto della giornata di scavo

Area 6000

Southern sector

With the start of the second session of the 2019 excavation campaign, investigations began into three burials located on the eastern half of the area. US 6267 is located inside the USM 6194 coffin tomb, whose bottom had been reached during the previous campaign. Beyond it a previous sepulchral cut seems to have been intercepted for the construction of the structure itself. North of the latter US 6269 appears to be the filling of a second burial ground, oriented West-East and in which, the bones referable to the burial in question, are heavily preserved. Still in the north, along the large trench that crosses the entire area (US-6007), US 6247 is partially superimposed on the eastern portion of the USM 6062 coffin tomb.

We located two burials. The northern most burial contains a body along with disarticulated remains oriented from the west to the east. The one just south of the northern burial is older and oriented west to east as well. Due to the age, the bones are brown and fragile and many of the bones shattered before they were unearthed. The cranium is completely fragmented but the mandible has teeth that still appear rooted. The cranium, ribs, scapula, humerus, one femur, and one lower arm bone has been located—it is not yet clear if it is the ulna or radius. The arm that has been unearthed is lying alongside the body. Inside of the lithic tomb there are many disarticulated and partial bones and some teeth. It is unknown if all of the bones are from the same skeleton. There does not appear to be anything under these bones at this time.

North sector

In the Northern Sector the USK 6531, 6538, 6541 and 6543, WE-oriented individuals, were brought to light, intercepting each other in a small space in the south-eastern portion of the sector. In partcolare USK 6531, an adult woman of about 35 years, represents the most recent burial among the four. It is presented in anatomical connection and overall in a good state of preservation, with the skull in left lateral appearance, the upper limbs flexed and crossed on the belly and the lower limbs extended, with the ankles and feet close together. USK 6531 intercepts, to the north, much of the body of USK 6543, of which only the left arm, slightly bent, and some ribs are preserved. USK 6543 in turn cuts the right side of USK 6541, of which some skull fragments remain, the diaphysis of the clavicles, some left coasts, the vertebral column, the left hand, resting on the corresponding coxal, and the left lower limb. Among the four the oldest individual is USK 6538, intercepted south by USK 6541. Of USK 6538 remains the distal portion of the left humerus and the lower limb of the same side.

US 6530 skeleton was removed except cranium and upper most cervical vertebrae. Various skeletal elements were found below US 6530.

Began to uncover a new burial. Outline of cranium already exposed, further exposed cranium and . Uncovered small portion of left clavicle, small portion of both humeri, both femora, both patella, and the anterior face of the right iliac crest.  The right humeri is embedded in the limit of the section, its lateral cortical surface is broken away, hollow inside.

Area 7000

The excavations of area 7000 started with pickaxing from south to north, exposing one centimeter of soul, followed by scraping by trowel and two small pieces oxidized metal were found. Excavations continue to expose layers west to east; soul differentiation included one layer od yellowish clay and then also darker reddish clay to the west most likely due to heat exposure. Findings included small pottery sherds, one small animal bone, and two pieces of charcoal.
